Closed Terrarium Care

Closed Terrarium Care

Closed terrariums are self-contained ecosystems that require minimal care once established. Here is a guide to help you properly care for your closed terrarium:

1. Placement: Place your closed terrarium in a location that receives indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the temperature inside the terrarium to rise too high, leading to plant damage.

2. Watering: Closed terrariums require very little water as the moisture is trapped inside the container. Only water when the soil feels dry to the touch, typically every 2-3 weeks if needed. There are some cases where you may only have to water it once for months to years. Be careful not to overwater as this can lead to root rot.

3. Pruning: Regularly check your closed terrarium for any dead or yellowing leaves and remove them to maintain the overall health of the plants.

4. Ventilation: While closed terrariums are designed to be self-sustaining, it is important to occasionally open the lid for a few hours to allow fresh air to circulate. This will help prevent mold and mildew from forming.

5. Cleaning: Wipe down the inside of the terrarium with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they can harm the plants.

6. Fertilizing: Closed terrariums typically do not require fertilization as the plants are in a closed environment with limited space for nutrient absorption. However, if you notice slow growth or yellowing leaves, you can use a diluted liquid fertilizer specifically formulated for terrarium plants.

By following these simple care tips, your closed terrarium should thrive and provide you with a beautiful and low-maintenance indoor garden.
